Introducing … AEMS MC!
LR – So, how’d you get into this crazy DJing thing anyway?
AEMS – Through listening to early dance music I just became engrossed in the whole dance music thing. I bought decks and got given some vinyl and the rest is history!
MCing thing came much later, although I’ve always dabbled, only when I started doing hiphop tracks and started to get bookings that it became a regular thing.
LR – Your style is extremely varied … Where do you pull influence from?
AEMS – I find influence from lots of things. I used to listen to loads of acid house, hip house, electro and hiphop, and of course, michael jackson when i was a kid… Then the prodigy, sl2, dj sy, and 90s dance/rave type stuff, hard house, dnb, breaks etc.
These days i listen to as much as possible.
LR – If there is one place you could play (or play again), where would it be?
I’d love to play more overseas, Russia looks crazy, and I’d love a US tour. Japan would be excellent as well.
As far as the UK goes – it’s gotta be Fabric main room!
LR – For those not familiar with your DJiing, how would you define your style?
My DJ style is quite hectic, I like to chop and change a lot – playing all sorts of bass music at around 140bpm… loads of edits, samples, double drops, acapellas and mash-ups….
I like to have a party!
LR – What’s next for AEMS?
As far as DJing goes, I’m playing monthly at BASS! in Newcastle, as well as continuing my “100 Minute Mixtape” Series.
As an MC I’m still resident for Turbulence, which is the North-East’s biggest DnB event, as well as hosting at Subprime and Heavyweight.
